Find Your Way Out

《Find Your Way Out》以 COVID-19 疫情期間「被包圍的身體」為出發點,於台北市立美術館前廣場以極簡主義形式呈現一座巨大的黑色建築。

In response to the subject of our bodies besieged by the COVID-19, Find Your Way Out presents itself, on the plaza in front of TFAM, as a giant black building in the spirit of minimalism: a length up to 30 meters extending straight from the side of Zhongshan North Rd. to the plaza center and a height towering up to 8 meters, coupled with a narrow corridor of merely 2 meters wide.
Each visitor is invited to walk upon the alternative passage to the museum square, i.e., upon the minimalist narrow corridor to refine not only a body perception unique to each individual but a mixed corporal sensation, constantly interacting with the outside world-the square’s current climate, light/shade, wind, sound and crowd…. Movements forwards and backwards, arrivals and departures of others: each influence from time to time the gentle rise and fall of the ground as well as the horizon of vision above the corridor in the installation.
What’s striking the ears is the mighty noise like waves flowing from the ground, which is actually a harmonious echo of Find Your Way Out to the experience of each participant. Pressing against a body’s two flanks, the black mesh is flicking as the sight wanders, and beyond lies the square’s landscape, like a “flashing screen”, difficult to be delineated. Put differently, the black mesh, in/outside, serves metaphorically as multiple alternatives, mixed with avatars and security disciplines of social distancing between human beings and the world outside in the pandemic era.
Those on the journey of Find Your Way Out either travel forward, linger, or repeatedly pace back and forth along the only path of one’s own, and only those with a firm attitude find the way out to come back again to the distinguishable and uncertain daily life.

Duality

Duality draws inspiration from a simple, familiar experience: lying under a tree, watching sunlight filter through swaying leaves, and feeling attuned to nature and your own breathing. This moment of awareness is what we hope to evoke in viewers, reconnecting them with the act of breathing.
The artwork includes 100 blocks moving with the wind, alternating between black and white, symbolizing life’s dualities: good and evil, light and dark, joy and sorrow. These opposites coexist and shift, reflecting life’s constant change. As the blocks move, they invite inner reflection, mirroring the unpredictability of emotions and events.
By focusing on conscious breathing, the piece aims to help viewers find balance amidst life’s chaos, reconnecting with themselves and nature. Duality is a meditative space that encourages harmony through the rhythm of breath, helping people find peace in change and unity in life’s contrasts.

Dark Halo

《Dark Halo》

“Does it oscillate, coalesce, or not exist?”
Before God could light the torch of the world, He needed “darkness” as kindling, as evidence of the existence of “light.” He brings revelation to all His people: How can we see the light without the darkness?
Dark Halo depicts a worldview in which “darkness” is the subject, where even substances that cannot be seen or do not have a direct effect still have their potential for great energy and meaning. The inner core of the device gathers a lightless substance, which leads to a constantly rotating light grating on the outer circle. At this moment, darkness reigns supreme, and people use the grating as a filter to perceive the “blackness” that dominates the order. The oracular proverb flashes into their minds: God says that the darkness has not dissipated if there is light.
We look at the blackness in front of us, look into the existence and non-existence of the inside, and gradually become one with it.

Continuum

“Continuum” draws inspiration from the Monolith in science fiction, symbolizing unknown intelligence and higher life forms.
This installation visualizes AI, exploring its relationship with humans through interactive lighting.
When opaque, the glass conceals a pulsating light, evoking lifelike energy and blurring the line between machine and life, echoing the Turing Test’s challenge of distinguishing AI from humans.
When transparent, the infinite reflections reveal AI’s programmatic, lifeless nature. The shifting opacity symbolizes changing perceptions of AI. By merging light and glass, “Continuum” simulates a dialogue between humans and AI, inspiring reflections on boundaries and coexistence in the age of artificial intelligence.
