同頻
On the Same Frequency
On the Same Frequency draws inspiration from the early 19th-century optical device—the phenakistoscope. Once used to study visual persistence and motion illusion, the phenakistoscope was an early precursor to animation: static images, when rotated and gazed upon, produced an illusion of movement, opening new imaginations of the “dynamic.” This work continues the spirit of that optical invention, reinterpreting it through algorithms and audience participation to reconsider the relationship between “viewing” and “generating.”
During interaction, participants leave hand-drawn marks and totems connected to their culture, life, or memory. The system captures these and, through AI completion and extension, generates 8–14 keyframes. These images are arranged in 2D front-view alignment as a virtual disc on the screen. By adjusting its rotation speed and fixing their gaze, participants collectively experience a continuous playback effect, resonating on the same frequency.
Additionally, a physical installation in front of the screen transforms the AI-extended imagery into visible 3D motion, allowing viewers to perceive their contribution across dimensions and experience moments of resonance between human and technology on a shared frequency.
